What is Portugal Masters?
Portugal Masters is the largest golf tournament in Portugal and one of the main tournaments of the European Tour, which takes place at the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course in Vilamoura, in Algarve.
Moreover, the region of Algarve was considered the best golf destination in the world for 2020.
The tournament has been held since 2007 and is organized by the PGA European Tour (Professional Golfers Association of Europe).
The Portugal Masters has a great media coverage and is watched by people of all ages. People around the world come to Algarve to enjoy the best this region has to offer at this time of the year, such as climate, landscapes, food and more!

The world’s best professional golfers play at Portugal Masters. In these tournament they have the opportunity to receive prize money and improve their international ranking.
European Tour – Portugal Masters
The European Tour is one of the world’s main golf championships and is called the European “big league” of golf. In the European Tour, 47 tournaments are held in 31 different countries, inside and outside Europe.
In Portugal there are two tournaments: the “Portugal Masters” in Vilamoura, in Algarve and the “GolfSixes Cascais”, in Cascais, near Lisbon.
Throughout the European Tour tournaments, players are accumulating points and looking to improve their ranking in the “Race to Dubai“.
At the end of the season the top 50 players will play in a final tournament in Dubai, whose winner is then considered the best player in Europe!
Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course in Vilamoura
The Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course is one of the best golf courses in the world, classified as “World Class Championship”.
This course was designed by the American Arnold Palmer, who was one of the greatest golfers of all time. The course has 90 hectares, with the 18 holes located near the lakes and vegetation from Algarve region, such as almond trees, carob trees and olive trees.
In the turistic town of Vilamoura, where the Portugal Masters is located, there are excellent infrastructures such as hotels, restaurants, marina as well as other world class golf courses.

What happened in 2019 at the Portugal Masters?
The 2019 edition of Portugal Masters payed around 2 million euros in prize money. Among the worldwide golf elite, we highlight:
- English Lee Westwood, former world No. 1 and former rival of Tiger Woods;
- German Martin Kaymer, former world number 1;
- Irish Padraig Harrington, winner of several international titles, 15 of which on the European Tour;
- British Matt Wallace winner of 4 European Tour titles;
- The English Tom Lewis and the Danish Lucas Bjerregaard, respectively, winners of the Portugal Masters of 2018 and 2017;
- Ricardo Gouveia and Pedro Figueiredo, among other Portuguese golfers.
